About Annie Leach NDD SFP
Since early childhood I have had an interest in botanical painting and went to study at Ealing School of Art. After my foundation year, which opened up many options, I decided to study Fashion and Design. When I left art school I went to work in the fashion industry, then after having children I continued on a freelance basis. I later decided to change direction and become a teacher. Initially working in Adult Education I went on to work in an Ealing comprehensive school, teaching dressmaking as well as art and design.
Having now retired, I once again have the time and enthusiasm to paint and concentrate on my first love Botanical Art.
I rarely leave home without my camera or sketchpad, inspiration is everywhere, from the smallest front garden to the most beautiful stately home. Wisley, Kew Gardens, Hatfield House Waterperry House are all very accessible and amongst my favourite places. I have also spent many happy hours drawing and photographing exotic plants and flowers during extended stays in Barbados,
I usually paint in acrylics on textured paper; I like the versatility of this medium, it allows my work to be accurate without looking photographic. I would describe my style as contemporary rather than classic.
